About the Course
Jazz Band Admission Requirements (students new to NMME Jazz)
Jazz Band membership is by director recommendation only.
● If you are new to NMME and are a wind player, you will complete the Band 4 audition.
● If you play piano, bass, guitar or drum set (and are new to NMME Jazz), you will audition during the Band 4 auditions. An etude will be sent to you to prepare for auditions.
Students auditioning on these instruments need to be experienced players and have the ability to read music well.
● wind players: by instructor’s recommendation
● keyboard, bass guitar, percussion: piece will be sent to you for preparation
Returning NMME Jazz students do not need to re-audition.
Vaughn Irby has been directing bands for 34 years. Marching and concert bands under Mr. Irby’s direction have received Superior and Excellent ratings at contests and throughout his career. He has been active in the Georgia Music Educators Association at the District and State levels as District Instrumental Chair and State Band Council. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Troy State University, and a Master of Music Education from Valdosta State College.
