Band 2/3 Audition Requirements
Band 2 is designed for students who have completed 1 year of instruction on their instrument. Band 2 students are expected to practice throughout the week in order to periodically pass-off assignments throughout the year. By the end of the Band 2 year, students should be able to play one octave of 4 major scales and a one octave chromatic scale from the band method book. Bands 2 and 3 will be combined for the 2023-24 school year.
Band 3 is designed for students who have completed at least 2 years of instruction on their instrument. By the end of this third year of instruction, students should be able to play all of the GMEA All-state Middle School required scales.
Audition Requirements for all students NEW to NMME Band Classes
Winds:
1. Play from memory the following scales and arpeggios.
Band 2: Concert B flat scale and and arpeggio from memory
Band 3: Concert B flat, F, E flat, and A scales and arpeggios from memory
2. Play the prepared piece for your instrument. The prepared piece is attached below.
Percussion:
Percussion students will perform the same audition as outlined above for the wind instruments, but with the following changes for BOTH snare drum AND mallets:
1. Snare drum – play the prepared piece only
2. Mallets – play scales and etude as outlined for wind instruments above
Returning Student Audition Requirements
Members of Band 2/3 will need to complete the audition requirements outlined by your director. Students who completed pass-off requirements during the school year will not need to audition further this year, if they plan to remain in Band 2/3.
Mrs. Gravitte has been teaching band and music lessons for 16 years. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Shorter University as well as an AA in General Music from Georgia Highlands College and a medical business degree from Dalton State College. Mrs. Gravitte is an active member in the Georgia Music Educators Association and is a member of both Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Theta Kappa honor societies.
